This is a sad thing that our police have to be so heavily armed, here and at home.
We are very excited about sharing our trip to South Africa including Cape Town and Namibia. We will be updating this site with our pictures and activities. Come back offen and feel free to comment (please)

British Airways Lounge Evening Number 2
Here we are again at the British Airways Lounge! This time waiting for our flight to Cape Town. We had a really nice day in London. The weather was mostly sunny. It was so nice to leave the airport and get outside in the fresh air and sun. Just a quick 15 minute train ride on the Heathrow Express and we were at Paddington Station. Took a London cab to the National Gallery and saw an exhibit on Dutch flowers and some of the other art. We had a lovely tea at the restaurant there and then walked to Buckingham Palace through the park. The flowers are beautiful. We have an eleven and a half hour flight ahead of us! Tomorrow morning arrival in Cape Town around 10 am. Just over 6,000 miles from London. Getting excited! Cheers.
1st Leg of Trip complete
We made it to London! Our flight arrived at 9:40 am. We were early. At the Admiral's club now for a shower and some breakfast. Heading into London after we are refreshed.
Arrived London
Arrived London Heathrow Airport about 30 minutes ago, found our way to next terminal for our flight tonight to South Africa.

Always love passing through the clouds like this. This is landing in London.
We now begin our 11 hour layover starting with breakfast and showers at the club, then off to London for a few hours then back by 6:30 to airport for our 9:15 flight to Cape Town South Africa. Here we will spend about 4 days enjoying the sights and learning of its history of this area.

5 minutes to take off - alls good

Michael and I are sitting in the British Airways lounge at PHL waiting for our flight. The trip planning that began two years ago has brought us to this moment. Hard to believe we are here waiting for our flight to London. As we sit here I am feeling so many different emotions. It's been a fast and busy last year. Feel like I have been running so fast. We have been through a lot. In this moment, I finally feel relaxed. So excited to do what I love to do most - travel to foreign lands. I am so passionate about this. I also feel incredibly grateful at the same time that we are able to do this. We are very lucky. Extremely lucky and fortunate. I wish everyone who has ever thought about traveling was able to do so. I consider it to be one of life's greatest gifts. For me international travel began when I first left the country and went to Madrid, Spain in 1989. This was made possible by my Mom, Dad, Nan, and Pop. It's one of the greatest thing my parents and grandparents ever did for me. It has had a lasting impact on my life and has shaped my life tremdously. I know that I will return to the United States with a whole new perspective on life and be even more thankful for the experience. I am also looking forward to spending quality time with Michael away from the current busyiness of the life we are building in our new home together. I am also some what sad, tears in my eyes as I write this that my Mom is not here to hear about our experience. I can hear her now, the excitement and worry that she would have about is going. Nonetheless, she would be excited for us. I know she will be watching over us as we make this incredibly long, life changing journey. Well so long for now until London!
The Trip Begins
Thanks Mark and Bill for taking us to airport. (Yes a selfie stick)

Travel Day - at 2:30 I started packing
Leaving the house at 5 PM and started packing at about 2:30 - is that 44 pounds?

Packing Weekend!
Packing begins this weekend! I confirmed yesterday that we will be able to leave a suitcase at the airport before we take the flight to our safari. This is good news as typically when we travel out of the country we look like we are fleeing the US, we have so many bags!
